-Lionel Messi claimed after Friday's Argentina-Colombia game that the referee shot down his complaints about roughhouse treatment, reminding him that they were in South America, not Europe.
"I asked him about a couple of incidents and he said 'This is South America and this is how the game is played here'. I guess they [referees] call the shots on the pitch and they choose what to allow", Messi said after his country's penalty shootout win over the 'Cafeteros' in the Copa América quarter-finals.
The official in question, the Mexican Roberto García Orozco, showed eight yellow cards during what was a hard-fought encounter in Viña del Mar. Messi was among those booked.
