NBC Sports to Keep Premier League

-The Comcast-owned sports unit will air England’s top league through the 2021-22 season

-NBC Sports Group extended its exclusive agreement to carry England’s Premier League soccer in the U.S. for an additional six years under a new deal announced Monday.

The Comcast Corp.-owned sports unit will air England’s top league through the 2021-2022 season. Ahead of the 2013 season, NBC scored a three-year deal for roughly $250 million, which expires after this season.
The deal is for a higher price per season than NBC’s current contract, said Mark Lazarus, chairman of NBC Sports Group. NBC still has one more year on its current deal, under which NBC pays more than $80 million a year.
Under the new agreement, NBCUniversal will continue to place Premier League contests across its networks, which include the NBC broadcast network, NBC Sports Network and USA Network, plus its live streaming service NBC Sports Live Extra.
The Premier League recently sold its U.K. rights for $7.8 billion for three seasons, up from $4.7 billion for the period from 2013 to 2016.
